The Earth and Theia collided . The earth was spherical before its collision with the large wandering planet. The earth didn't have an atmosphere. Nor did it have any water. It WAS spherical .. but ONLY BEFORE ITS COLLISION WITH THEIA.
That's my theory and it's actually backed by science and several creation stories.
