I am not a flat earther, but I would love to get the perspective of both flat earth and globe earth proponents on this.
When I look at the scientific evidence, I come to the conclusion that the earth is a globe. But here's the thing, I don't understand why Flat Earth Truthers try and argue against science?
I mean, I constantly see people trying to discredit science they don't understand, or just flat out don't believe in; often using pseudoscience that scientifically minded folks won't listen to, when they already have the perfect rebuttal.
For example, "Gravity's not real." Trying to explain how buoyancy or electromagnetism holds us to the ground using half-incomprehensible pseudoscience isn't going to sway anyone who believes in the scientific method, and only serves to confirm globe earther's notion that flat earthers are being stupid or disingenuous.
When the whole idea is predicated on biblical conviction of a flat Earth under a firmament, I don't understand why the Flat Earth argument doesn't end there.
"What is gravity then?"
It's how god made it.
"How do the seasons work then?"
It's how god made it.
"What about the tides?"
It's how god made it.
"Yeah, but, the sun, and moon, and other planets are all globes. And comets! geologic record?! Explain that!"
You're not listening, *that's how god made it!***
It's irrefutable, intangible, and ineffable, like the notion of God, and therefore cannot be argued against.
When you start throwing pseudoscientific things out there to try and justify the view through a scientific lense, it falls flat.
I can argue that buoyancy can't work without gravity. I can argue against the idea that the moon is some sort of projection on a glass firmament. I can argue against the idea that the sun is close and we don't revolve around it. Science allows me to do so.
I can't argue against the incomprehensible mind of a creator whos designs and machinations are beyond description.
Just like pseudoscience can't refute peer reviewed scientific evidence, a lack of faith can't refute faith.
