Former street dog gives up her blanket for stray on cold evening
It’s a sad reality that there are so many stray dogs out on the street, fending for themselves.
With no family to return home to, these dogs rely on whatever kindness people will give them for food, water and shelter.
We’ve seen many instances of humans going out of their way to look after their local strays… but sometimes it’s actually the animals who have the heart to look after their own kind.
That’s what one woman realized when she saw her dog make a heartwarming donation to a stray in need.
A dog named Lana began her life as a stray on the streets of Brazil, until she was rescued and taken in by a woman named Suelen Schaumloeffel and her fiancee, according to The Dodo.
They gave her a nice warm home, and Lana never had to worry about living on the streets again… but apparently, she never forgot where she came from, and remembered all the other dogs still without homes.
One chilly evening in 2017, Suelen left out a thick blanket for Lana in her dog house to keep her warm. But later, she saw her dog doing something that she couldn’t believe:
Lana gave her blanket to a stray dog!
The stray, who the couple had seen around before, was just outside the fence, and Lana brought the blanket for him, sacrificing her own comfort to keep the stray safe from the cold.
Her owner couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
“I thought, ‘How beautiful what she did for her friend,’” Suelen told The Dodo. “My best four-legged friend reminded me of something so important: generosity!”
The owners decided to try and help the stray themselves. They tried to take him in to help him find a home, however the dog always flees when they get to close, so they just left food and water for him instead.
They are no doubt following the example of their kindhearted dog.
“She is the nicest little dog I’ve ever met,” Suelen said. “We forget sometimes the difference we can make in someone’s life. She reminded me of this.”
It’s truly amazing how kind and generous dogs can be. We can all learn a thing or two from them, and do our part to help out stray animals.
