A friend of mine turned out to be a flat-earther. He was explaining how he could see a shore miles away which, according to his math (I assume calculated correctly), should have been behind the curvature of the earth and therefore not visible. I recently saw the Shimshon footage of Israel to Crete at sunset with a long range IR camera setup. The experiment was interesting, but it wasn't possible to confirm he was actually seeing Crete. In a comment I read, someone suggested it would be better if there was someone in front of that mountain in Crete shooting off a flare.
