Oddly, this statement fits this situation:

Ecclesiastes 1:9

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

The globe belief is not new and globe debate is not new (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagoreanism). They both have roots that go back, and both sides debate nicely with intelligent facts (intelligence, in this case, being the ability to articulate, measure, and reason). In recent years, the issue of the globe re-surged again.

I just finished reading the book Earth Not a Globe (from 1881) and it is perfectly sound. You can see it online, btw: https://sacred-texts.com/earth/za/ …this was just bonus material for me. There were some new facts in it I don't see mentioned today as well.

Conspiracy Theory

Sometimes "conspiracy theory" is just baseless coincidence theory. Sometimes "conspiracy theory" becomes confirmed as "conspiracy fact". No doubt you can think of one or two conspiracies that went from suspect to undeniably confirmed. The moon landing being faked is a fact. There is so much evidence for the fact that it was a hoax that the only thing that remains is bias of the believer, which can be very powerful and is inescapable from both sides.

I don't think of Flat Earth as a conspiracy theory. However the NASA fakery is certainly going from conspiracy theory to conspiracy fact in most of it's activities.

Why arguing (debating) doesn't work…

I suppose, much to the disappointment of most, I could quote scriptures (1 Timothy 6:20 KJV) but I like this quote from The Prestige:

The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret… but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled.

The odd part about using this quote is that both sides can use it, seeing that bias rules their outlook and confirms their position in their sight.

Here is another one, a meme:

Both sides, exasperated from the stupidity of the other side (both sides being intelligent enough to write, examine, extrapolate facts, quote histories, etc…will deride the other side for being stupid) could happily apply this meme to the other.

The root of the issue in most cases:

The existence of the globe and it's supporting theories keep us from the creation account, where the creation account immediately credits God, which in turn reminds us of our accountability in this life.

"Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and* what is his son's name, If thou canst tell?"

The issue is not so difficult so as to require a debate that runs on infinitely…

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse…
